First Customer Bets Big on Phoenix

We are excited to share that we have secured our first customer.

In our mission to provide a cost-effective, reliable, secure and perpetual source of replacements for discontinued semiconductors across critical sectors. This customer, one of the largest defense companies in the world, provides the US Department of Defense (DoD) with highly complex and sophisticated weapons systems for a variety of airborne platforms.

Large capital investments, like airplanes, are designed to stay in service for thirty to forty years; in fact, the B-52 bomber is still in service. The long life of this equipment means that the on-board systems must undergo technical refreshes every 3-8 years.

Our customer is tasked with redesigning a specific technology system within an aircraft; however, their engineers did not have enough inventory of a specific memory chip that is a necessary component in a production “program of record” (a fully-funded and prioritized project for the DoD). Not surprisingly, the original chip manufacturer had long since stopped making this particular chip, leaving the contractor with almost no options to solve their challenge without introducing incredibly costly technology redesigns or enduring lengthy production setbacks.

This is exactly the type of scenario where Phoenix can have the most impact. By creating a form, fit, and function replacement for chips that are no longer in production we are giving our customer control over their technical projects, unlocking options that were previously unavailable, mitigating risk of delays and budget overruns all while ensuring that the replacement chip will be a reliable and technical match.

With this first customer, we are well on our way to establishing a reputation for excellence and reliability. We know that semiconductor obsolescence has plagued our nation’s most critical industries and infrastructure systems for years and we are encouraged to be able to help in such a significant way.
